South Korea is reassessing its sanctions strategy against North Korea following revelations that Pyongyang's cryptocurrency theft operations are funneling funds into its weapons programs. The US Treasury has sanctioned eight North Korean individuals and two entities—Korea Mangyongdae Computer Technology Company (KMCTC) and Ryujong Credit Bank—for laundering stolen crypto assets.

Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Ji-na emphasized the need for close coordination with Washington to counter North Korea's cyber threats, noting that stolen cryptocurrencies could finance nuclear and missile development. The US measures underscore the growing intersection of cybercrime and geopolitical tensions in the digital asset space.
